Geography Bee

By Harley and Timmy

On December 9, 2010 was the class Geography Bee. So in class we had our teacher Mrs.Sharp ask us questions so who ever won first or second went to go against the 4 and 5 grade class. So Timmy and Harley won and went to the Geography Bee. Two students from every class got to compete. They sat in front of all of the parents, and all of fourth and fifth grade. They answered some very difficult questions. It was very hard. I was so nervous!

Even though they didn't win, we are very proud of them for reaching the school-wide competition.

On September 25 we went on are thrilling trip to dover the state capital. We went to the old state house were they dressed up in costumes and they told us all about George Washington and we also went to the archives and we learned about the old documents that when you get old .It was so much fun.

Then the last place we went was under ground and we learned about things in the past like how they lived back when there was no electricity and they had to hunt for food. They had no Walmarts and no Food lion. So life was not so easy back then because you have to make everything by yourself. We also got to look at some stuff they either made or found from back then.

ECON and ME

By: Melina

On May 19th, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders took a field trip to Del Tech in Georgetown. The point of the trip was to learn about economics. it was called Econ and M.E. We were divided into grades and schools.

There were three parts to this competition, the the prodution the test and the problem solving. Plus we got free t shirts. the production was when we had to make shiny pennies booklets for kindergateners. The students had to cut out perfect paper pennies and a instruction book and a whole bunch of other items. A few teams from Banneker won for that, actually fourth grade class got first place for that. The easiest part, I think, was the test. The test was 36 different questions all about econmics. My group won third place for this segment! Finally there was the problem solving part of the competition. The problem was ace vending machine needed a new type of vending machine. 2 or 3 gruops from Banneker won a ribbon for this part.

It took the whole day so of course we ate lunch there. All in all I had a great time! Especially because I won a ribbon!

Our Family Picnic

By : Hannah and Sage

On the day of May 21st, our school had a Family Picnic. Our parents came at our lunch time and ate lunch with us. You were able to order hot dogs or PB & J, along with Sun chips and ice cream! After we ate, we could look at all the stands or go to the Book Swap. The stands had information about different clubs you could join in the summer, or information about joining music in Middle School. If you brought in books from your house that you did not want any more you gave them to the person that came around with a cart and how many books you brought you would get a coupon to be able to get that many books. Right before the picnic was a Blow Up Obstacle Course. What you did was race against another kids in a different class.Even Mrs. Sharp had a turn! Our whole class was dancing to the electric slide and it was so funny! It was an awesome Friday! I wished it would never end.We had lots of fun!!!!!

Fun On The Ice!

By: Sydney

Today we went ice skating! We went down to the gym and got our skates. Then they came around to check and make sure they were on very tight. After we were all ready we got split in two groups. Group one and group two. Then we lined up around the side and they showed us how to march across the ice. We went to the other side and back and they taught us how to glide our feet across instead of marching this time.

The floor wasn't real ice though so it was a little harder to glide. They also taught us about backwards skating. It was easier than going forwards and that was very interesting. But once everyone got used to skating on the fake ice we learned how to spin! After we had done all that it was time to leave. So we sat down and took off our skates. Then we left and went back to class. What a busy morning!

Getting our skates on and tied up tight!

Waiting patiently!

Learning how to march across the ice.

Gliding!

Our instructor was so impressed with out advanced ability, we got to learn how to spin!

Science Fair

By Morgan and Libby

We decided to do our project on balloon blow up because we wanted to to know what food is best for yeast to grow. Libby & I filled up all the mini Gatorade bottoles with yeast and other ingredintes. Then we would go back and check the bottles every 30 minutes. After all the 30 minutes were up we would smell the bottles and see what they smelled like. Before we smelled the bottles Mrs JoAnn ( Libbys mom ) got the balloon popped in her face. The best food for yeast is Flour.
Today the class shared their projects with everyone else. After our class shared all the projects, we took them to the gym. Tonight all the parents will come and see the projects. Judges will score the projects and we will get bows or ribbons! If you come in first, second, or third place you will get a medal! Visit us soon, we will tell you if we win.
Riley showing us his 'Living Green' Project. He made a solar powered house.

Sage did research about Jellyfish. Here she created a Jellyfish out of Jello-O! Joshua did an experiment involving Mentos and Coke! It was very explosive! Kayla made Rice Krispies dance by creating static with wool.

Read House Field Trip

By : Thomas

On our field trip to the Read house, we went into the house first and learnd different tools they used and learned how to use them. Then we went to a room and got smocked! That means we were the master of our job and were put to work! Then we put our knowloge to the test and played a game and found the tools and did a demastation of tin work.

Then we went outside and went to the curch and saw the school and then saw a sleeper stone momument. A sleeper stone is a stone that held up the rail road. We saw New Jersey across the Delaware River. We saw a boot scraper and thought it was to tie your horse up to. Then we saw the court house and the armory which was changed to the high school and saw Town Hall. We found out that the school kids went home for lunch because the town was so small. I liked the trip did you like our summary?

Our Fantastic Writing Piece

By Reese and Carson

Our writing piece is about we get sucked into a game or our tv. For example, we were watching Lets Make A Deal Halloween Edition and all of a sudden were in a dracula costume on the big deal trying not to get zonked.

Reese : mine is about playing a Indiana Jones video game. I get sucked into the game then all of a sudden I can hardly breathe because the walls are squishing me.

Carson : mine is about me being sucked into Phineas and Ferb. It was like I never thought I would go into outer space. All of a sudden, I'm in the blastoff to the sun. Three, Two, One BLASTOFFFFFFF!

Our stories are totally awesome!
